Former Australia cricketer Ricky Ponting has advocated for the inclusion of Jake Fraser-McGurk in the national team across all three formats, praising the youngster’s explosive performances in domestic cricket, particularly in the Sheffield Shield and One Day Cricket for South Australia.

Fraser-McGurk, aged 21, made his international debut in the ODI against the West Indies at the SCG last Sunday, showcasing an impressive innings of 41 off 18 balls, including a seven-ball onslaught that yielded 31 runs with three sixes. Ponting expressed confidence that Fraser-McGurk could evolve into an all-format player for Australia.

The former cricketer highlighted Fraser-McGurk’s remarkable performances in Shield cricket and One Day Cricket after moving to South Australia this year. Drawing comparisons to David Warner‘s early career, Ponting emphasized the potential for Fraser-McGurk to follow a similar trajectory and become a key player in all three formats.

“David Warner burst onto the scene in a very similar manner. He played some One Day cricket for New South Wales and T20 cricket for New South Wales before being picked in the Australian T20 team. I was at the other end in his first game against South Africa at the MCG, and he made Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, and these guys look like they were club bowlers,” Ponting remarked.

Ponting urged the selectors to fast-track Fraser-McGurk’s inclusion in all three formats, expressing confidence that the talented youngster could easily adapt to Test cricket as well. He envisioned Fraser-McGurk making his way into the Test team within the next 12 months, emphasizing the young player’s potential and talent.

Following the conclusion of the ODI series, Fraser-McGurk has resumed playing with South Australia in the Marsh Cup and Sheffield Shield.
