Former India head coach, Ravi Shastri, spoke highly of Virat Kohli’s leadership, describing him as an “uncut diamond” for Test captaincy. Shastri, who aimed to make Test cricket paramount during his tenure, identified Kohli’s passion and readiness to play tough cricket as key attributes.
Under Kohli’s captaincy, India achieved significant milestones, including their first Test series win in Australia (2018/19) and reaching the final of the World Test Championship in 2021. Kohli led the team in 68 Test matches, winning 40 of them, making him India’s most successful Test captain.

Bumrah, labeled initially as a white-ball specialist, became the fastest Indian bowler to reach 150 wickets in Test cricket and currently holds the top spot in the ICC Test Rankings.
