A source close to the Afghanistan Cricket Board revealed that Rashid Khan and the team agreed on this break to help him nurse his injury.

After undergoing back surgery following the ODI World Cup 2023 in India, Rashid Khan was out of action for four months. He recently took part in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the Caribbean, leading the Afghanistan cricket team to the semifinals.

Rashid Khan has started to gradually increase his workload. He played three games in three days during the Shpageeza T20 league in Kabul, taking six wickets in total.

Speaking on the same, a source revealed: “The plan for Rashid after the surgery was to gradually increase his workload. Not playing the longer format for the next six months to one year was also part of the plan.” “In Tests, he would be required to keep bowling from one end and his back is not ready for that kind of workload. He should be available for the ODI series against South Africa next month.”

Rashid Khan has played five Tests, 103 ODI matches, and 93 T20Is for Afghanistan, who rarely play five-day matches against top teams like New Zealand. He also suffered a hamstring injury during The Hundred in the UK earlier this month.
