The former captain of the Indian cricket team, Rahul Dravid, will officially open the India House during the Olympics in Paris. The event will include a panel discussion called “Cricket at the Olympics: Dawn of a New Era,” which will commemorate cricket’s inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The panel discussion will take place on the 28th of July evening at India House, located in Parc de Lavillette. The Indian Olympic Association and the Reliance Foundation collaborated to create India House, the country’s first dedicated venue at the Olympics.
ICC and Dream Sports CEO To Join the Panel at India House
Rahul Dravid’s panel will also include Geoff Allardice the CEO of the International Cricket Council, and Harsh Jain the CEO and Co-founder of Dream Sports.
Dravid, who recently coached India to victory in the T20 World Cup, is widely considered as one of cricket’s most admired and admirable names.
According to a Dream Sports press release, Geoff Allardice stated, “We continue to focus on the development of cricket around the world, bringing in more fans, providing opportunities for players to compete at the highest level, and now introducing cricket to Olympic stakeholders. Cricket’s inclusion in the Olympics is a significant step forward, and we look forward to Paris 2024 as a catalyst for further progress.”
Harsh Jain, speaking about the event, said, “We are really delighted to finally include the world’s second-largest spectator sport in the upcoming Olympics. This would undoubtedly increase worldwide Olympic viewership and motivate more countries to establish cricket programs, encouraging the sport’s growth and diversity.”
The upcoming moderated panel discussion will feature eminent panellists who will offer their perspectives on cricket’s inclusion in the LA 2028 Olympics programme. The panellists will discuss the potential for cricket’s growth and the opportunities it offers in both existing and emerging markets.
The topic will also include ways for capitalising on cricket fans’ global passion. Cricket will make its long-awaited return to the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028. Notably, the sport has only appeared in the Olympics once previously, in 1900.
