R Ashwin Takes No. 1 Spot In ICC Test bowling Rankings, Virat Kohli Jumps seven places

Ashwin dethroned veteran England bowler James Anderson from the top place.

Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s senior spinner, has surpassed England pacer James Anderson to take the top place in the ICC Test bowling rankings. Ashwin leads with 869 rating points after taking 25 wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, while Anderson is second, 10 rating points behind the Indian off-spinner. Former India captain Virat Kohli also made significant progress in the Test rankings for hitters, rising seven places to take 13th position.

Although Ashwin has been a reliable performer for India in whites, Kohli broke a 1205-day drought without a Test tonne by reaching the triple digits in the drawn Ahmedabad Test against Australia. He racked up 186 runs in the first inning but fell short of the coveted double-hundred.

Kohli is currently not far behind teammates Rishabh Pant (ninth) and Rohit Sharma (10th) as the only Indian hitters ahead of him in the Test batter rankings.

Axar Patel also had a great series, particularly with the bat, moving up eight spots to 44th on the list of hitters and one slot to fourth on the list of all-rounders after accumulating a massive 264 runs in four matches.

In the series, Ashwin and Jadeja were the main orchestrators for India, with the former claiming 25 wickets and the latter 22. Yet, for whatever reason, Jadeja fell from eighth to ninth place in the Test bowling rankings.

With the most recent rankings update, there were also promotions for Australian players. Usman Khawaja climbed two places to seventh in the Test batting rankings after scoring 333 runs in the series. Cameron Green, an all-rounder who only played in the Ahmedabad Test, rose 11 places to finish 26th.
