Praveen Jayawickrama, the Sri Lankan cricketer who has played all formats faces a big action by ICC for violating the anti-corruption code. The ICC has banned him from all forms of cricket for one year. Out of this one-year ban, he will be suspended for six months. Because he admitted to violating Article 2.4.7 of the ICC’s code and accepted all the charges.
Praveen Jayawickrama’s violation of laws in the Lanka Premiere League
This allegation of Praveen Jayawickrama is related to International Cricket and the Lanka Premier League. That is why now the ICC acted in accordance with Articles 1.7.4.1 and 1.8.1 of the Code to ban the Sri Lankan spinner in its agreement with Sri Lanka Cricket.
Now under Article 2.4.7, obstructing or delaying any investigation conducted by the ACU, including concealing, tampering, or destroying any document or other information that may be relevant to that investigation or may lead to the discovery of evidence. He was found guilty of this.
Praveen Jayawickrama has played all three formats for Sri Lanka
Sri Lankan cricketer Praveen Jayawickrama made his debut for Sri Lanka in all three formats in the year 2021 itself. The young Srilankan spinner in his debut match became the architect of the victory for his team by taking 11 wickets.
Apart from this, he also received the Player of the Match award for his brilliant performance in the Test match played against Bangladesh. He has so far taken 25 wickets in 5 matches played for Sri Lanka. However, he played his last Test match in the year 2022 and since then he has been out of the team.
Praveen Jayawickrama took more than 120 wickets in first-class
Notably the young lad has been a great addition to the Sri Lankan team, Praveen Jayawickrama has taken 5 wickets in 5 ODIs for Sri Lanka. Apart from this, he has also taken 2 wickets while playing in 5 T20 International matches. He has delivered a masterclass performance in first-class cricket, with 120 wickets registered in his name while playing in just 33 first-class matches.
Other than that, Jayawickrama has taken 60 wickets in List A matches. Now due to corruption, the ICC has banned him for one year. With this, now his cricket career is in danger.
