Topping this list is the legendary former Indian batsman, Sachin Tendulkar. Throughout his illustrious international career, he amassed a total of 100 centuries. However, 25 of these centuries were scored in matches where the Indian team ended up on the losing side. Specifically, in Test cricket playing across 329 innings in 200 matches, he notched up a total of 51 centuries.

Out of these 51 centuries, 11 occurred in matches where his team suffered a defeat. Conversely, 20 of these centuries coincided with victories for his team. Additionally, in One Day Internationals (ODIs), he scored 49 centuries across 463 matches. In 14 of these instances, the Indian team had to face defeat.

2. Brian Lara: 17 Centuries

Brian Lara, the ex-skipper and cricketing icon from the West Indies, is second on this list of people’s favorite guys. All in all, he scored 53 international hundred throughout his professional career.

However, 17 of these centuries were scored in matches where the Caribbean team suffered a defeat. In Test cricket—playing across 232 innings in 131 matches he scored a total of 34 centuries.

Out of these 34 centuries, 14 occurred in matches where his team suffered a defeat. Conversely, 8 of these centuries coincided with victories for his team. Furthermore, in ODI cricket, playing in 299 matches, he scored a total of 19 centuries. Of these, his team suffered a defeat in three matches where he scored a century.

3. Virat Kohli: 16 Centuries 

At number three is the ex-captain of the Indian cricket team and amazing batsman, Virat Kohli (85 centuries). However, his team has faced defeat in 16 of these matches. In Test cricket, he has scored 30 centuries across 210 innings played in 123 matches.

Out of these, his team suffered a defeat in seven matches where he scored a century. Additionally, in ODI cricket, playing in 311 matches, he has scored 54 centuries. His team faced defeat in nine of these matches. Meanwhile, in T20 Internationals, the Indian team emerged victorious in the sole match where he scored a century.

4. Chris Gayle: 15 Centuries 

Ranked fourth on this list is the former West Indies batsman, Chris Gayle. This is because he scored a total of 42 centuries during his international career. His team suffered a defeat in 15 of these matches. In Test cricket, he scored 15 centuries across 182 innings played in 103 matches.

Out of these, his team suffered a defeat in three matches where he scored a century. Furthermore, in the ODI format, playing in 301 matches, he scored 25 centuries. The Caribbean team suffered a defeat in 11 of these matches where he scored a century. Additionally, in T20 Internationals, he scored a total of two centuries; his team suffered a defeat in one of these matches.
