History and Expansion

From being a potential newcomer to a dominant power in Australian T20 cricket, the Perth Scorchers have advanced over some time. The Perth Scorchers made their debut in the Big Bash League’s (BBL) inaugural season in 2011–12. They advanced to the BBL final under Justin Langer’s direction but fell just short of the Sydney Sixers. The Scorchers made a name for themselves in the BBL as a strong squad very early. In the 2012–13 BBL season, they made it to the final but lost, this time to the Brisbane Heat. They didn’t have to wait long, though, to win their first championship. They won their first BBL championship in the 2013–14 season by eliminating the Hobart Hurricanes in the championship game.

The Scorchers made history by becoming the first team to win back-to-back BBL championships as they kept winning. In a dramatic championship game, they triumphed against the Sydney Sixers to win the 2014–15 season. After defeating the Sydney Sixers once more to win their third BBL championship, they continued their winning ways into the 2016–17 season. One of the BBL’s most reliable teams, the Perth Scorchers, have continued to perform well. They have consistently advanced to the playoffs’ semifinals and championship games.

Liam Livingstone, Joe Clarke, Colin Munro, and Jason Roy, all international talents for the Ashton Turner-captained Perth Scorchers in the BBL10, assisted the team’s batting. They had a rocky start, suffering three defeats and a result that wasn’t recorded, but they recovered, winning eight of their subsequent 10 games. Despite their brilliance, Colin Munro and Jhye Richardson couldn’t defeat Sydney Sixers, who won their second straight BBL championship.

During the 2021–2022 Season Qualifier, the Scorchers easily defeated the Sixers by 48 runs. Six days later, the Scorchers played a Sixers team that had been decimated by injury and COVID-19 in the Final. The Scorchers overcame the Sixers by 79 runs due to exceptional bowling and a daring partnership between Evans and Turner to win their record-setting fourth BBL championship. During the BBL12 season, the Perth Scorchers suffered severe difficulties as a result of losing key members of their championship-winning team. Despite these difficulties, the Scorchers had a solid start to the season and finished first, after defeating the Sydney Sixers in the Qualifier, they earned a spot in the BBL championship game. They defeated the Brisbane Heat in the championship match by chasing down 175 and winning by 5 wickets with 4 balls remaining to claim their sixth Big Bash championship in front of a record-breaking crowd.
