(PCB) Pakistan Cricket Board has set a historic precedent ahead of Pakistan’s white-ball series against Zimbabwe, appointing former cricketer Shahid Aslam as the national side’s new batting coach. This decision comes in the wake of Pakistan’s mixed performance in their recent white-ball series against Australia, where they faced a 3-0 defeat in the T20 format.
With the team gearing up for a crucial tour to Zimbabwe, Aslam’s appointment is aimed at addressing the team’s batting shortcomings and improving their overall performance.
PCB assigning Shahid Aslam for the Zimbabwe Tour
Appointed to strengthen the batting skills and tactics of the Pakistan team is Shahid Aslam, a seasoned former cricketer with domestic and international experience. He will join the coaching ranks for the first time in Pakistan’s tour of Zimbabwe, where the team will play three ODIs and three T20s. The first ODI is scheduled to be played in Bulawayo on November 24.
In addition to the appointment of Aslam, the PCB also took the initiative of appointment of Aaqib Javed as the interim coach until Champions Trophy with the view that it would help bring in new insights and directions in the team after the shabby display in the recent T20 series against Australia. With both Aslam and Javed now on board, the PCB would hope it can fashion out a more cohesive and focused team for the international engagements ahead.
During the Zimbabwe trip, Aslam will be working in tandem with senior players like the team captain Babar Azam, and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan. Also, he will get to work with emerging talents such as Abdullah Shafiq and Saim Ayub. He is a learned and seasoned player expected to bridge the gap between potential and performance, especially in the white-ball format, by adding depth to the batting line-up.
A combination of young and senior players forms the Pakistani ODI squad against Zimbabwe. They will look to redeem themselves after their recent failures.
The following players have been chosen:
– Amir Jamal
– Abdullah Shafiq
– Abrar Ahmed
– Ahmed Daniyal
– Faisal Akram

– Mohammad Rizwan (captain/wk)
– Muhammad Irfan Khan

As the tour is nearing, decisions from the PCB come out with a clear intention to strengthen the technical capabilities of the team along with providing much-needed support to help Pakistan regain its form in international cricket.
