Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first, scoring a very competitive 165/4 in their 20 overs. Even without their regular openers, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan’s batting lineup delivered some very good contributions. Usman Khan and Tayyab Tahir were the stars with the bat, both of them scoring quick 39 runs each.

Aggressive stroke play by both of them formed the basis of Pakistan’s total. Sam Ayub and Irfan Khan also contributed some useful runs, which helped Pakistan to keep a good scoring rate. The batting of the team was well-balanced because they capitalized on the chances Zimbabwe’s bowlers were offering them, and set a target of 166 runs.

After setting a good total, Pakistan’s bowling did a great job in the second innings by restricting Zimbabwe to just 108 runs in 15.3 overs. With the pace and precision of the bowling attack in Pakistan, the maximum number of wickets went to Abrar Ahmed and Sufiyan Muqeem.

Both had an exemplary match in breaking vital partnerships as well as constantly exerting pressure on the batters all through their innings. Pakistan’s Haris Rauf remained in top shape for yet another match. He again snagged two very valuable wickets for Pakistan. Jahandad Khan chipped in with one wicket, completing a clinical bowling show by Pakistan.

The chase by Zimbabwe never gained much momentum, and their batsmen folded under pressure. Sikandar Raza, captain of Zimbabwe, was the best performer for his team and scored 39 runs including four boundaries off 28 balls. He tried to take the innings forward but at the other end, there wasn’t much support.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Tadiwanashe Marumani added 33 runs to the scoreboard, but beyond these two, Zimbabwe’s batting faltered. None of the other players could make a significant contribution, and the team was all out well before reaching the target.

Absence of Senior Players and Pakistan’s Strength

The victory was even more impressive considering the senior players absent from the squad. Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah were the key players rested for the series.

But it provided an opportunity for others to step up and show their skills. The young guns in the team did not disappoint. The win was a testament to Pakistan’s ability to win without having to heavily rely on its main heroes, both batting and bowling units showing up in style.

Zimbabwe Under Pressure against Pakistan in PAK vs ZIM

Zimbabwe was unable to pursue the target successfully, which emphasized some major weaknesses of their batsmen. They had Sikandar Raza, an experienced batsman; however, their batting was quite erratic, and they failed to withstand the pressure that Pakistan’s bowlers gave them.

Once Raza along with Marumani, somehow showed resistance, the Zimbabwean innings collapsed instantly, where they lost even within 15.3 overs, scoring only 108 runs, and eventually Pakistan won comfortably.

Pakistan’s performance here in this first T20I showed that the nation was gradually becoming strong even though its most influential players were absent. In batting as well as bowling, Pakistan took the day of Zimbabwe with a pretty decent margin of victory, therefore giving an early start of lead to the series. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, will have to regroup and find ways to strengthen their batting line-up for the remaining matches if they are to challenge Pakistan.
