India defeated Bangladesh by 7 wickets with 51 balls remaining. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli hit half-centuries as India continued their winning form in the World Cup. Here is the recap of the second innings.

Rohit and Gill dominate powerplay

With two fours in the opening over against Shoriful Islam, Rohit Sharma got the innings underway as best he could. In the next over, Shubman Gill began his assault on Mustafizur by hitting the opening delivery for a four. In the third over, Rohit struck Shoriful for a four and a six, showing no signs of slowing down. Mustafizur was replaced in the attack by Nasum Ahmed.  In both the fifth and sixth overs, Rohit struck a four. Gill gave Hasan Mahmud a four when he was brought into the attack. In the final over of the powerplay, Gill hit two sixes off of Nasum to finish the 10 overs with 63 runs scored.

India continues to attack

After the powerplay ended, Rohit didn’t stop attacking, hitting Hasan’s bowling for a four. In the twelfth over, Mustafizur returned to the attacking role. The 28-year-old pacer was destroyed by Gill for three fours. While Rohit struck yet another six in the next over, Hasan Mahmud ended the celebration by dismissing the Indian captain on the very next ball. Rohit pulled a short ball that went straight to deep backward square leg this time. With seven fours and two sixes, Rohit amassed 48 runs in 40 balls.

Kohli dominates yet another chase

It was a fortunate start for Virat Kohli. Hasan gave Kohli two straight no-ball bowls, the second of which ended in a four. Kohli hammered him for a six on the free hit. With singles and doubles, Kohli and Gill continue to add points to the scoreboard. In 52 balls, Gill reached his half-century in the nineteenth over. In the subsequent over, Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed Gill. With five fours and two sixes in 55 balls, the Indian opener scored 53 runs.

Since Kohli and Shreyas Iyer each hit a four in the same over, Gill’s wicket did not have much of an impact. Although they bowled in tandem and cut down on boundaries, the spinners were of little threat to Iyer and Kohli. In the 27th over, after hitting 48 balls for a four and a single, Kohli reached his half-century. In the thirty-first over, Mehidy Hasan returned to the attack and made an immediate effect by getting rid of Iyer on the opening ball of his subsequent stint. Iyer attempted to go for the maximum, but at the midwicket boundary, he discovered Mahmadullah, who completed the catch.

To pursue the aim, Rahul and Kohli both depended on singles and doubles. Rahul increased the scoring rate by hitting Shoriful for a four and a six in the 37th over. With a six against Hasan in the 39th over, Kohli launched the assault. He reached the nineties with a four and a six on the next over. Kohli needed six more runs to finish his century, with five more needed to win. On the final ball of the 41st over, he ran two doubles and a single, showcasing his level of fitness. In the 42nd over, he hit a six to end the match and reach his 48th century.
