England after a loss against New Zealand won their second game against Bangladesh. The defending champions defeated Bangladesh by 137 runs. Here is a recap of the first innings.

Bangladesh batters struggle against Topley

In the first over from Chris Woakes, Litton Das began his innings with a hat-trick of fours. The second new ball was taken from the other end by Reece Topley, who was making a comeback in this game. Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto were both out in two balls by the left-arm bowler. In the fourth over, England lost a review after contesting a lbw decision against Litton. In the sixth over, Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh, was dismissed by Topley. In the following over, Woakes gave up 15 runs as Litton hammered two boundaries. Despite going for runs, Woakes continued with his spell and dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz in his fifth over with a beautiful outswinger. Although Bangladesh scored 57 runs during the powerplay, England really won the powerplay after taking four wickets.

In the 11th over, Litton took just 38 balls to get his half-century. As Bangladesh’s runs dwindled, Mark Wood was added to the attack. In seven overs from 12 to 18, the Tigers only managed to score 31 runs. The 20th over saw the introduction of Adil Rashid into the attack. As the English leg-spinner gave up 10 runs in his first over, Litton hit a six. On the sixth ball of his new spell, Woakes was reintroduced in the attack from the opposite end and dismissed the half-centurion, Litton. With seven fours and two sixes, Litton scored 76 runs in 66 balls. 

English bowlers take control of the innings

The English bowlers were in complete control during the 21-35 over period, allowing only 53 runs while dismissing Mushfiqur Rahim in the 31st over. The wicketkeeper for Bangladesh was taken out by Reece Topley, giving him four for the game. In 64 balls, Rahim scored 51 runs while hitting four fours. In the 40th over, Liam Livingstone joined the attack and took a wicket with his first ball. Towhid Hridoy was dismissed by Livingstone. In 61 balls, Hridoy scored 39 runs while hitting two fours. Mahedi Hasan was the eighth wicket for Bangladesh when he was bowled by Adil Rashid at the other end. Mark Wood dismissed Shoriful Islam to pick up the ninth wicket of the innings. Shoriful and Mustafizur scored some crucial runs to decrease the margin of the loss.
