Bangladesh attempted to pursue the aim without rushing, needing just to achieve a meager 157 runs. The Tigers chased down the target quite comfortably and won the match by 6 wickets with 92 balls remaining. Here is a recap of the second innings.
Afghanistan dismissed the openers early
The two new balls were split between Mujeeb ur Rahman and Fazalhaq Farooqi. During the powerplay, Mujeeb was not at his best and bowled a few off-target balls. Afghanistan received the first wicket as a gift in the fifth over. A Farooqi delivery was deflected by Litton Das to point fielder Najibullah Zadran. While Tanzid Hasan, his teammate, attempted to steal a single and was put back by Litton, Das was observing the ball. To run out Tanzid, Najibullah then delivered a direct hit to the bowler’s end. Taznid hit a four and scored five runs in 13 balls. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was promoted and sent in at three instead of their regular batter at 3, Najmul Hossain Shanto. Farooqi appeared to be a more threatening bowler than Mujeeb. In the seventh over, he eventually had his reward when he got rid of Litton, who inside-edged an outside off-stump delivery back to his stumps. In the powerplay, Bangladesh scored 44 runs while losing two wickets.
Mehidy Hasan and Najmul Hossain guide Bangladesh to victory
Mehidy Hasan immediately after entering the batting order appeared to be the best batter among the players on both teams. Throughout his stay, the Afghan bowlers hardly ever bothered him. Shanto appeared at ease against the Afghan bowling, with the exception of the single delivery from Rashid Khan in the thirteenth over where he was deceived by the wrong un. While Shanto played defensively, Mehidy scored at a run-a-ball speed.
Mehidy Hasan smashed four fours and took 58 balls to reach his half-century in the 23rd over. Mehidy Hasan was adjudged LBW on the field by umpire Joel Wilson during the 25th over. After a lengthy conversation with his companion Najmul Hossain, he went back and examined the choice. After spotting an inside edge, the third umpire changed his mind. Mehidy Hasan was taken out by Naveen-ul-Haq in the 29th over after he rejoined the assault. Rahmat Shah at mid-off made a spectacular one-handed catch to end Mehidy Hasan’s innings, making it more of a fielder’s wicket. The match-winning partnership of 97 runs was broken by Mehidy Hasan’s wicket. Najmul reached his half-century in the same over, taking 80 balls and hitting one four and one six.
