ODI world cup 2023: 3 players with most runs in the history of England vs Sri Lanka clash

England vs Sri Lanka is one of the oldest rivalry happening in a long time, and there are many batters with lots of runs that have appeared in the history.

 Today defending champions England and Sri Lanka will face each other in the 25th game of this World Cup at M Chinnaswamy  Bengaluru. Both teams have lost three games out of four and are struggling at 7th and 8th position respectively in the points table. England’s surprising performance has disappointed their fans and they are aiming a big comeback in this tournament and England will be going for it today. On the other hand Sri Lanka has added experienced Angelo Mathews for left matches and they’re also going to make a big impact.

Legendary wicketkeeper batter from Sri Lankan team is sitting at the top of the table with 1625 runs in 41 innings with four triple digit scores. He has batted with the average of 47.79 and unbeaten 134 in 2013 at Oval is the highest score of him against England. Sri Lankan batter is the second highest run scorer in ODI after Sachin Tendulkar with 14234 runs in 404 games and also the top ODI run getter in the history of Sri Lankan cricket. Sangakkara is considered as best player in terms of technique which helped him a lot to score a lot of runs in world cricket. Kumar Sangakkara is an icon for world cricket and no other active player is even close to him.  

Mahela Jayawardene

Another Sri Lankan star batter has popped up at second position in this list. Mahela scored the second most runs against England from his nation. In 43 innings with five hundreds and eight fifties he has scored 1562 runs. He played with the average of 40.05 and at Headingley in 2011 his beautiful inning of 144 is the highest total of an inning. Jayawardene is the third most ODI run getter for Sri Lanka and also one of the highest scorers in the history of ODI format. He loves to bat on English surfaces, he batted in 32 games at England grounds and scored 1197 with the average of 41.28 where he made three tons. 

Sanath Jayasuriya 

Former explosive Sri Lankan opener holds third position in the list with 1195 runs in 34 innings. Sanath Jayasuriya has played with an average of 37.34 and has four centuries, but he has the best strike rate among these three which is 101.35 and also most Sixes(28). He is the highest individual scorer(189) in the history of ODI for his team and also has the most centuries(28). Jayasuriya is the fourth player with most sixes in ODI cricket and first for Sri Lanka. England’s Joe Root is just 20 runs short to level Jayasuriya’s score and he will look for it today. 

M Chinnaswamy is a batting friendly pitch so there is a lot of possibility that this game is going to be the high scoring game and many batters will score tons of runs.
