Bangladesh hasn’t been good this season. They’ve lost 5 games out of 6 and losing from the Netherlands was totally devastating. They’ve been so good before the world cup, they won a three match ODI series with India and gave a strong competition to New Zealand. Everyone was expecting for Bangladesh to be a powerful competitor for big teams but the way they’ve played in this tournament is very disappointing. they ‘ve only won a game in front of an Asian Team Afghanistan which doesn’t define their place in world cricket. Ban vs Pak could be a surprising game because both teams have a lot of experience playing against each other and performing equally badly in this World Cup. Pakistan has won just one game more than Bangladesh in the same game played.
Bangladesh and Pakistan are considered as rivals, both have played 38 ODI games together where Pakistan has totally dominated Bangladesh with 33-5 but cricket is a game of uncertainty and there is no weak team in this stage. Two games have been played between these teams in the World Cup and both teams have won one game each. Last time in 2019 they interacted in the ocean of cricket and Pakistan took the revenge of 1999 by beating them with 94 runs. Whenever these teams meet, bowlers grab the full attention of the game. So let’s see who are the top bowlers from this collision.
Shahid Afridi – 32 wickets
Former all rounder and Captain of Pakistan Shahid Afridi has taken the most wickets against Bangladesh. Between 1997 to 2014 he played 21 games and took 32 wickets with the economy of 4.19. Shahid Afridi is one of the greatest all rounders from Pakistan, he has the third most wickets for Pakistan and fourth most runs in ODIs. He has more than 8000 runs and over 350 wickets in this setup. Shahid has the great ability to strike the ball. He is the third most six hitting batter in the world and first for his country, also he has been allegedly named as the batter with the longest six in international cricket.
Umar Gul – 29 wickets
Former Pakistan’s seamer Umar Gul has taken 29 wickets in 17 games. Umar Gul was one of the best seamers in world cricket. Gul was the highest wicket taker in 2007 and 2009 T20 World Cup, whereas in 2009 his stand out performance has made Pakistan win the tournament. He was constantly suffering from injuries throughout his career. He has taken 163 wickets in test 179 wickets in ODI and 85 wickets in T20Is which is also the third highest wickets for Pakistan in T20Is. Umar Gul has delivered the best bowling figure(6 runs, 5 wickets) for Pakistan in T20Is in 2009 and then in 2013 he repeated his own performance.
Shakib-Al-Hasan – 21 wickets
Shakib-Al-Hasan is the second all rounder in this list he has taken 21 wickets in 17 games. Bangladesh’s captain Shakib is also in the list of top three batters in this rivalry and now he is showing his presence in the bowling list also. He has definitely become the face of Bangladesh cricket and after his teammate Musfiqur Rahim he is the most senior team member. In this ongoing world cup he has taken 7 wickets in five games and he has good experience of playing against Pakistan so this could be harmful for Pakistan if Shakib gets to read the minds of the batters. It will be interesting to see whether he will be able to add more wickets in this list or not. In today’s Ban vs Pak game Shakib is also going to take advantage of playing for KKR in the IPL.
