Niroshan Dickwella will be barred from all formats of the game while further investigations are underway.

“The suspension is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice,” stated an SLC media release.

“The test, which was conducted by the Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency (SLADA) during the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024, is part of SLC’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the integrity of the sport.

“This initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) guidelines, is aimed at ensuring that cricket remains free from the influence of prohibited substances.

“SLC, together with the Ministry of Sports and SLADA, conducts these tests during domestic tournaments randomly to safeguard the sport against anti-doping violations.”

Niroshan Dickwella last featured for the Sri Lanka cricket team in March 2024 and had recently captained Galle Marvels in LPL 2024. Although Dickwella received a call-up for Sri Lanka’s T20I series against Bangladesh earlier this year, he didn’t feature a single game.

Selectors Were Not Happy With His Controversial Behavior

According to reports, after his selection, the selectors had expressed concerns about the Sri Lankan batter’s disciplinary issues. Dickwella has received criticism throughout his career because of his inconsistent performances and his controversial off-field behavior.

In fact, it was in 2021 when Dickwella was suspended along with Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilake for breaching bio-bubble protocols.

Talking about his career stats, Dickwella has played across all formats for Sri Lanka, accumulating 2,757 runs in Tests, 1,604 runs in ODIs, and 480 runs in T20Is.
