Nicholas Pooran of the Lucknow Super Giants blasted the quickest fifty in the present Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 in match 15 against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Pooran reached his fifty in the second-fastest time in IPL history on Monday, smashing 51 off 15 balls at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru (April 10).
Earlier on Saturday, Chennai Super Kings batter Ajinkya Rahane hit the quickest 50 in IPL 2023 during match 12 against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Satdium in Mumbai (April 8).
Rahane’s fifty came in just 19 balls, shattering the previous joint mark set by Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Shardul Thakur and Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler, who both hit fifties in 20 balls.
Previously, Ruturaj Gaikwad hit a fifty off 23 balls in the season opener between CSK and Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The CSK opener was dismissed for 92 runs shy of a century. His hit contained nine sixes.
Kyle Mayers of LSG also hit his second fifty of the season during the run chase. The West Indies all-rounder lost out on the quickest fifty by one delivery, reaching the milestone in 21 balls.
This season, the majority of fifties have been 20 balls or higher. Pooran’s and Rahane’s fiftys are the only two below the 20-ball barrier. The quickest 50 in IPL history was scored in 14 balls by two players.
Fastest 50s in IPL 2023
Although Pooran is the quickest 50-ball bowler in the present IPL 2023, his 15-ball fifty falls one run short of the fastest 50s in the Indian Premier League. That was, however, the joint second-quickest fifty in IPL history.
Rahane and Moeen Ali combined for the second-fastest half-century by a CSK player. Suresh Raina holds the record for the quickest fifty by a CSK player, scoring fifty in 17 balls.
KL Rahul and Pat Cummins hold the record for the quickest fifty in IPL history, both reaching the mark in 14 balls. Yusuf Pathan and Sunil Narine share the next best 15-ball 50-ball score.
