The veteran Indian bowler Ishwar Pandey recently announced his retirement from all formats of international and domestic cricket. But he revealed some interesting information regarding his experiences during the playing days at Chennai Super Kings in post-retirement conversations. Ishwar Pandey was renowned for his discipline with the line-lengths in bowling, which ultimately made him a reliable bowler in the Indian Premier League for some time. So, while having a short chat with Dainik Bhaskar, Ishwar Pandeyi recalled the instance when MS Dhoni once scolded him for bowling a yorker on which he dismissed Ab de Villiers.
In the match number 37 of IPL 2015, CSK and RCB were competing against each other for the play-offs. While chasing the target of 149-runs, Ab de Villiers was looking to attack Ishwar Pandey, but he didn’t allow de Villiers to get an upper hand over him. He bowled the first three balls of the over on good length and on the fourth ball he took the wicket of Ab de Villiers, but that was an inaccurate Yorker delivery.
Even after dismissing one of the prime batters of RCB, MS Dhoni the skipper of CSK scolded him for bowling Yorker delivery. While speaking to Dainik Bhaskar, Ishwar Pandey said, “Once we were playing a match against RCB in Bangalore. When AB de Villiers came to bat, Mahi bhai handed me the ball and told me not deliver a yorker and bowl well. I beat de Villiers three or four balls and got hit for a four off the fifth delivery. There was one ball left so I thought I’d hit the yorker”.

“I bowled a yorker, but it became a low full toss. De Villiers got out on the same ball. After getting the wicket, Dhoni came to me and scolded me. Although he wasn’t serious, Dhoni said ‘I told you not to bowl the yorker’. Then later, patting his back, he said – Never mind, aagey se dhyaan rakhna,” Pandey concluded.
MS Dhoni used to scold his bowlers in the International matches, a same instance was happened in a game with Deepak Chahar. The pacer was warned by Dhoni to not to bowl bouncer to Chris Gayle, while he still executed it and later got scolded by Dhoni. Though many bowlers got sad with the rude behaviour of Dhoni but later they realised that it was a right intend by their skipper. Ishwar Pandey must got few chances for India as per the cricket experts like Gautam Gambhir, Irfan Pathan and Parthiv Patel.
Although it was a good thing that he played for CSK in four IPL seasons but a bowler who had experience of 4 IPL editions should get an international game. Pandey also hinted about his future job as a fast bowling coach in state cricket associations of India.
