Former England cricketer Nasser Hussain has called on the England team, led by Jos Buttler, to disrupt India’s unbeaten run and hand them their first defeat in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023. With their current ninth position on the points table, England is on the verge of being eliminated from the semi-finals race. Despite their challenging situation, Nasser believes that England possesses the talent to make a strong comeback and demonstrate their capabilities.
“The players must shoulder the responsibility for their performance. I may not often resort to cliches like ‘playing for the badge,’ but that’s precisely what England needs to do now. They must head to Lucknow on Sunday and disrupt India’s plans. They need to remind India and the world of the greatness of the cricketers they have been and still are,” Hussain expressed in his column for The Daily Mail.
Following their significant loss to Sri Lanka, Nasser Hussain raised concerns about England’s approach in white-ball cricket. He called upon the team to escape their current predicament and take individual responsibility, indicating that this might mark the end of an era for English cricket.

“We’re talking about some of the greatest players in our history of white-ball cricket, but this tournament has proven to be an immense challenge for some of them,” Hussain remarked during an interview with Sky Sports.
“I wouldn’t have made changes to the squad before the tournament, but I would certainly reconsider it now because it feels like the end of an era.
This doesn’t diminish the remarkable achievements of this England side. We can’t overlook the fact that they have provided us with six or seven years of absolutely outstanding white-ball cricket.”
India, with a perfect record of five wins in five games, stands as the only undefeated team in the World Cup. They currently hold the second position on the points table, just behind South Africa, showcasing their clinical and impressive performance.
England will face host nation India on Sunday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
