MS Dhoni, who was elected captain of the second most successful franchise after being recruited by CSK in the first edition in 2008, will have a fantastic opportunity to make this historic performance in front of the home supporters.
The 41-year-old has led CSK to the playoffs in 11 of the 13 seasons since they joined the IPL in 2008. He has captained the franchise to four IPL victories, second only to the Mumbai Indians. CSK also reached the IPL final nine times under Dhoni.
Dhoni has guided CSK to 120 victories in 199 matches as captain, with a winning percentage of an amazing 60.61%. The former two-time World Cup-winning India captain has scored over 4000 runs, including 22 fifties, during his tenure as CSK captain.
Considered the finest finisher in the game, Dhoni owns multiple records in death and last overs with the bat, as well as the league record for most dismissals.
As Dhoni makes his 200th appearance as CSK captain, star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja hopes the team honours him by defeating Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday (April 12).
“What can I say, he is a legend of Indian cricket. So, I would like to wish him good luck. Hopefully in his 200th game, we will win in Chepauk and all the fans will be happy, so that we continue the momentum. Hopefully we win tomorrow and we give him a gift on his 200th (IPL) match as captain,” Jadeja was cited as stating in CSK official website.
While this will be his 200th IPL match as captain of CSK, he has led the Chennai-based team 222 times across all tournaments (IPL and CLT20) and boasts a winning percentage of 60.85 courtesy to 134 victories.
Aside from the four IPL titles he won in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021, Dhoni also guided Chennai Super Kings to two now-defunct Champions League (CLT20) wins in 2010 and 2014. Dhoni has guided CSK to 14 victories in 23 CLT20 matches as captain.
