The ICC World Test Championship (WTC), which is a league competition, was launched in 2019. It is regarded as the world cup version of the test format.
The tournament includes the top nine test playing teams and runs in a two-year cycle, with each team playing three home and three away series. The top two teams in the league stage meet in the one-off final. New Zealand and Australia won the first two editions of the ICC WTC respectively, both beating India in the final.
