Mohammed Siraj Claims Top Spot Among Men’s ODI Bowlers After Six-fer Against Sri Lanka

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has reclaimed the number one position in the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings for bowlers after a remarkable performance with figures of 6-21 against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final.

Indian pace sensation Mohammed Siraj has ascended to the pinnacle of the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings for bowlers once again, following his sensational six-wicket haul (6-21) against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium.

Mohammed Siraj had previously held the top spot in January of the current year but was briefly overtaken by Josh Hazlewood in March. His remarkable performance in the final propelled him eight places up the rankings.

His remarkable and deadly spell played a pivotal role in dismissing Sri Lanka for a mere 50 runs, allowing India to secure a resounding 10-wicket victory and clinch their eighth Asia Cup title. Throughout the 2023 Asia Cup, Siraj claimed a total of 10 wickets at an astonishing average of 12.2.

South African left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj is another notable mover in the men’s ODI bowler rankings. Maharaj, who played a crucial part in South Africa’s remarkable turnaround in a five-match ODI series, finished with figures of four for 33 in the final match. His performance elevated him to 15th place in the rankings, a remarkable 10 positions higher than his previous career-best ranking.

Several other bowlers made notable strides in the rankings, including Afghanistan spinners Mujeeb-ur Rahman (up two places to fourth) and Rashid Khan (up three places to fifth). England’s pace all-rounder Chris Woakes has climbed to 11th place, while South Africa’s pacer Lungi Ngidi now occupies the 21st position.

In the men’s batting rankings, South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen and England’s Dawid Malan have made significant advancements. Klaasen’s explosive innings of 174 against Australia in Centurion catapulted him into the top 10 for the first time, securing ninth place.

On the other hand, Dawid Malan has reached a career-best 13th position after accumulating 277 runs in the three matches he played in the series. Ben Stokes, following his historic knock of 182 at The Oval, has gained 13 spots, securing the 36th position in batting rankings.

Other notable movements in the batting rankings include South Africa’s David Miller (up four places to 17th), Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka (up two places to 28th), Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hassan (up five places to joint-29th), and Australia’s wicketkeeper Alex Carey (up three places to joint-29th).
