MI Emirates continued their stellar performance in ILT20 Season 2, securing a place in the playoffs with a commanding 30-run triumph against the Desert Vipers at the Zayed Cricket Stadium. This marked their sixth victory in eight matches, showcasing their dominance in the tournament.
Opting to bat first, MI Emirates set the stage with a formidable total of 188/5. Kusal Perera’s elegant knock of 65 runs, coupled with Nicholas Pooran’s late-inning assault (39), and Ambati Rayudu’s hard-fought 44, propelled them to a strong position.
In response, the Desert Vipers faced a challenging run-chase, losing wickets at regular intervals. Fazalhaq Farooqi starred for MI Emirates, claiming an impressive 4/31, including crucial dismissals in the powerplay.

MI Emirates’ innings started with a lucrative powerplay, despite the loss of early wickets. Perera’s aggressive 31 in the first six overs set the tone. A solid partnership between Ambati Rayudu and Perera added 75 runs, with Perera reaching his half-century in 31 deliveries. Nicholas Pooran’s explosive cameo further boosted their score, ending the innings at 188/5.
In reply, Desert Vipers struggled, losing four wickets in the powerplay, with Farooqi making early breakthroughs. Despite a spirited effort from Azam Khan and Ali Naseer, the wickets continued to fall. Naseer displayed resilience, reaching a half-century in 42 balls, but Farooqi’s four-wicket haul limited Desert Vipers to 158/8.
Post-match, top scorer Kusal Perera praised the team’s performance, highlighting the strong foundation set by him and Rayudu, along with Pooran’s contribution in the death overs.
