Brendon McCullum, the head coach of the England test cricket team, emphasized the formidable challenge that lies ahead in the upcoming five-Test series against India, slated to begin on January 25, 2024, on Indian soil. McCullum, renowned for promoting an aggressive and attacking brand of Test cricket termed Bazball, sees the series as the ultimate litmus test for England’s distinctive style.
Speaking at the RCB Innovation Lab’s Leaders Meet India, McCullum expressed his eagerness for the impending challenge. “We have got a huge challenge against a very good Indian team in five tests in India. I am excited about it because you want to test yourself against the best side, and I genuinely believe that India is the best in their condition,” he stated.

McCullum reflected on the essence of Bazball, emphasizing the love for the game and the pursuit of excellence. “We are playing the game because we love cricket and we want to try and be as good at cricket as we possibly can,” he shared, highlighting the ongoing journey of unlocking players’ potential.
The former New Zealand captain, recalling his iconic unbeaten knock of 158 off 73 balls in the first IPL game, credited it as the inspiration behind Bazball and emphasized how that moment changed his life. “The reason why I daydream about that moment is because it changed my life,” McCullum expressed, recognizing the transformative impact of that unforgettable innings.
Additionally, McCullum highlighted the significance of red-ball cricket for the English Cricket Board, constituting ninety percent of its revenue. The coach acknowledged the challenges and the importance of sustaining success in this format for the overall health of English cricket.
