Litton Das appointed captain of the Bangladesh T20I side as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made a 16-player list of players to feature in the coming seven-match T20I series against Pakistan and UAE on schedule in May-June 2025. Offspinner Mahedi Hasan is chosen as the vice-captain of the side on this high-stakes tour abroad.
Litton Das Appointed Captain of T20 squad
The BCB has confirmed that Litton Das will assume T20I captaincy from Najmul Hossain Shanto, who relinquished the captaincy role this year. Although Litton has captained Bangladesh in limited spells before—four T20Is, seven ODIs, and a single Test—he is assuming a full-time captaincy role for the first time in any format.
He had taken Bangladesh to a 3-0 T20I series victory over West Indies in December when Shanto suffered a hamstring injury. His leadership was adjudged for being a cool head with a fine sense of the game.
Litton Das, 30, recently made a comeback from a finger injury that kept him out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025, where he was contracted by Karachi Kings. Fully fit now, his appointment indicates Bangladesh’s move to inject experience and stability into the side leading up to the T20 World Cup cycle.
Five Players Called Back to Reinforce the Squad
Selectors have called five players back on this tour:
Najmul Hossain Shanto
Towhid Hridoy
Mustafizur Rahman
Shoriful Islam
Tanvir Islam
Hridoy has returned after recovering from injury, and Mustafizur, who was absent for the West Indies series because of a personal matter, is also back in the fray.
Notable Omissions: Afif, Mehidy, Taskin Miss Out
There have been some unexpected omissions that have raised eyebrows:
Afif Hossain and Mehidy Hasan Miraz have been left out of the team. Taskin Ahmed is recovering from an ankle injury.
Mehidy’s exclusion is surprising, particularly considering his recent inclusion in the leadership group.
