List A Records: Lowest Team List A scores in history

List A cricket or ODI cricket is not known for low scores. There are hardly any low scores in ODIs. Here is a look lowest List A scores in history.

List A cricket or ODI matches are known for big scores. At least in ODIs, there are hardly any matches where teams get bowled out for a low score. Recently, in the Asia Cup final, Sri Lanka was bowled out for just 50 runs. Mohammed Siraj starred for India with the bowling figures of 6/21. 

Sri Lanka with their total of 50 runs did not make this list. Which throws up questions like what is the lowest List A score? Has any team been bowled out for a score in single digits? Let’s find out! Here is a look at the top 10 lowest scores in List A cricket.

Lowest List A scores

1. West Indies U-19 vs Barbados (18/10)

West Indies U-19’s team of 2007 has the record for the lowest List A score. They were bowled out by Barbados for just 18 runs. The team consisted of players like Kieron Powell, Darren Bravo and Shamarh Brooks among others. No batter scored in double digits. The highest scorer for the team was Brooks who scored seven runs. Six runs off wides were the second highest scorer for the U-19 side. Six of their batters were dismissed for ducks. For Barbados, Pedro Collins took seven wickets in 7.3 overs. In the second innings, Barbados chased down the target quite comfortably after losing just two wickets.

2. Saracens Sports Club vs Colts Cricket Club (19/10)

Saracens Sports Club ranks second on this list for being bowled out for just 19 runs in a Sri Lankan List A tournament. Colts Cricket Club was the team to restrict the Saracens to just 19 runs. The highest score of the innings was once again seven runs scored by opener Dilan Sandagirigoda. Chathuranga Kumara and Kanishka Alvitigala were the only two bowlers required to dismiss the opposition batters, picking up a 5-wicket haul and 4-wicket haul respectively. The Colts Cricket Club chased down the target in 2.2 overs without losing any wickets.

3. Middlesex vs Yorkshire (23/10)

During the John Player League in 1974, Yorkshire won the toss against Middlesex and opted to bat first. The opener, Geoffrey Boycott scored 48 runs while middle-order batter Richard Hutton top scored with 60 runs. Yorkshire made 148 runs and gave the Middlesex batters a target of 149 runs. Middlesex in reply, were bowled out for just 23 runs. Clive Radley opening the batting top scored with 6 runs while on the other hand, five of their batters were dismissed for ducks. Tony Nicholson and Arthur Robinson took three wickets each while Graham Stevenson and Hutton took two wickets each.

4. Oman vs Scotland (24/10)

During Scotland’s tour of Oman in the 2018/19 season, Oman were bowled out for 24 runs. Scotland won the toss and elected to bowl first. Khawar Ali top-scored for Oman with 15 runs. Five batters were dismissed for ducks. Sandeep Goud remained not out without scoring a run in 18 balls. Ruaidhri Smith and Adrian Neill took four wickets each for Scotland. In reply, Scotland won the match by 10 wickets by chasing the target in 3.2 overs.

5. Chittagong Division and Ace Capital Cricket Club

  • At 5th in the list of lowest List A scores is Chittagong Division which scored 30 runs. They are joint 5th in this list. The top scorer in their innings was the extras given by the Sylhet Division. There were nine extras while the top-scorer was wicketkeeper, Nadim Sajjad who scored five runs in 41 balls. Nasir Hossain from Sylhet Division took five wickets in his 10 overs while giving away just eight runs. Sylhet Division chased down the total in 39 balls with 8 wickets remaining. 
  • In March 2021 during a List A game between Nondescripts Cricket Club and Ace Capital Cricket Club the joint-fifth lowest List A score was made. Nondescripts CC won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 260/9 in the first innings. Ace Capital CC in reply was bundled out for just 30 runs. Skipper, Yohan de Silva while opening the batting top-scored with eight runs. Chaturanga de Silva took a 5-wicket haul for Nondescripts CC as they won by 230 runs.

6. Border vs South Western Districts (30/10)

In a List A game in South Africa between Border and South Western Districts, Border was dismissed for 31 runs which is the 6th lowest score in List A cricket. Border won the toss and elected to bat first. Bowler Lundi Mbane top scored for them with 10 runs while no other player made scores in double digits. Right-arm medium fast bowler, Nathan Murray was the star performer for the South Western Districts taking 7 wickets in 6.5 overs. The South Western Districts’ opening batters chased down the total quite easily in five overs without losing a single wicket.

7. Saurashtra vs Mumbai (34/10)

In January 2000, during a game in the Ranji One-Day Trophy, Saurashtra was dismissed for the 7th-lowest List A total in history. Mumbai put Saurashtra in to bat after winning the toss. The bowlers from Mumbai were on song with Amit Dani picking up five wickets while the current Indian bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey picked up three wickets. The eight extras bowled by the Mumbai bowlers were more than the score of any of the Saurashtra’s batters. RC Vasanth Kumar and Firoz Bambhaniya top-scored for Saurashtra with seven runs each. The Mumbai batters chased down the target in 7.1 overs with the solitary loss of Wasim Jaffer’s wicket. 

8. Cricket Coaching School, Zimbabwe, Rajasthan, USA (35/10)

Four teams have scored the joint 8th-lowest score in List A cricket. 

  • Cricket Coaching School scored 35/10 against Abahani Limited and lost the match by 212 runs. Al-Amin Hossain from Abahani Limited took 6 wickets.
  • Zimbabwe scored 35/10 against Sri Lanka which is the lowest ever ODI score. Sri Lanka won the match by 9 wickets with 244 balls remaining. Sri Lanka’s Chaminda Vaas picked up four wickets.
  • Rajasthan scored 35/10 against Railways and lost the match by 9 wickets with 267 balls remaining. From Railways, Amit Mishra and Anureet Singh took five wickets each.
  • The United States of America scored 35/10 against Nepal. Sandeep Lamichhane took 6 wickets. Nepal won the match by 8 wickets with 268 balls remaining.

9. Leicestershire and Canada (36/10)

Two teams are tied for the 9th lowest List A score.

  • Leicestershire scored 36/10 against Sussex and lost the match by 53 runs. Sussex were bowled out for 89 runs in the first innings. Sussex’s John Denman took 4 wickets.
  • Canada scored 36/10 against Sri Lanka where Prabath Nissanka took four wickets. Sri Lanka won the match by 9 wickets with 272 balls remaining.

10. Zimbabwe vs Sri Lanka (38/10)

Zimbabwe toured Sri Lanka for the LG Abans Triangular Series 2001 played between Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and West Indies. In the first match, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 38 runs where Chaminda Vaas registered the best ODI bowling figures of 8/19. Stuart Carlisle, Zimbabwe’s skipper top top-scored for them with 16 runs. Sri Lanka chased won the total in 4.2 overs and won the match by 9 wickets with 274 balls remaining.
