In a significant boost for India’s Test squad against England, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja have been included in the final three Test matches, having recovered from quadriceps and hamstring injuries. While their return adds experience to the team, their participation is contingent on medical clearance, showcasing the cautious approach adopted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding player fitness.
The re-entry of KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja provides much-needed stability, addressing certain gaps in the squad. However, the absence of key players poses challenges for the Indian team. Mohammed Shami’s continued sidelining due to an ankle injury creates a void in the fast-bowling department, while the unavailability of Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer further complicates the team’s composition.
Kohli’s absence, due to a family emergency, deprives India of his batting prowess, placing additional pressure on captain Rohit Sharma. Shreyas Iyer’s withdrawal, owing to back stiffness, opens opportunities for Rajat Patidar and Sarfaraz Khan to make their mark in the middle order.
To strengthen the bowling attack, Mohammed Siraj makes a return to the squad after being rested for the second Test, and Akash Deep replaces Avesh Khan to provide additional firepower.
The third Test of the series, currently tied at 1-1, is scheduled to commence on February 15 in Rajkot.
