After Delhi Capitals’ loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), DC mentor Kevin Pietersen was questioned about the non-selection of star left-arm pacer Natarajan, who was acquired for a whopping Rs 10.75 crore during the IPL auction. Even with his massive price tag, Natarajan has not played even a single game this season.
Kevin Pietersen’s Defiant Response to Natarajan’s Dilemma
Coming strongly in response to the question, Kevin Pietersen clarified that there can only be 12 players on the field during a match, and among them, one impact substitute. Referring to the practical issues, he stated,
We have space for 12 players, with one being able to be an impact player. If you could let us know where you have an opening based on what we have, it will definitely help us. There is not going to be much we can do, unless we get to play with 13-14 players.
Pietersen Praises Natarajan’s Professionalism
Kevin Pietersen recognized Natarajan for his commitment and attitude, even though he did not get out on the field. He mentioned that as a group, the team is holding themselves to a certain standard, and that includes those who are sitting out. They are preparing for the time when they get the opportunity.
Natarajan is fulfilling all that’s being demanded of him, just as the rest of the team. What’s been impressive is how well the non-playing unit is backing the team, understanding that their turn could arrive at any time,” Pietersen said.
What’s Next for Natarajan and Delhi Capitals?
With Kevin Pietersen supporting Natarajan and other team players to remain prepared, it’s evident that chances will come by as the IPL season goes on. Fans and analysts alike would be eager to know when the talented pacer is going to get his opportunity to shine for Delhi Capitals.
