Jimmy Cook: Biography, Age, Height, Achievements, Family, and Career Statistics

This page will discuss Jimmy Cook’s life and achievements. Career Information Some Interesting Personal Facts You Should Be Aware Of!

Jimmy Cook was a great opening batsman who spent most of his career during the end of the apartheid government. This was bad for him because it happened at the same time that the dictatorship was coming to an end. When he finally made his long-awaited debut on the international stage, he was almost 40 years old and way past his best.

His career started to take off when he moved from the middle of the order to the top for Transvaal. He broke almost every domestic record for his province. When he finally got a chance to play overseas with Somerset, he showed how good he was by scoring a lot of runs: more than 7,500 in three summers, including 28 hundred. All these things were on top of the fact that he played for Somerset.

When South Africa returned to the international scene, he was not chosen for the team. However, in 1992–1993, he played his first test match against India. He was South Africa’s best player when they played against rebel touring teams. But by that time, he was already struggling against fast bowlers, and his fielding, which had been great when he was young, was starting to fail him. He never lost his drive and led Transvaal well in his later years. He tried coaching twice, first as the director of coaching for the UCBSA and then with Hampshire, where he failed and was fired in 2002. He was let go. As a coach at Johannesburg’s King Edward School, he was responsible for Graeme Smith’s overall growth. After that, he worked as a coach and eventually became the Highveld Lions’ batting coach.
