Jasprit Bumrah Misses Out: India To Depart Without His Replacement For The T20 World Cup

Men in Blue have not yet named the replacement for the star pacer

India departed for Australia on Thursday to try its hands at winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. However, the Men in Blue did not go with their 15th member of the team. Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who was supposed to be their headman, has missed the flight with an injury.

As a result, India has gone with 14 members. India has time till October 15th to decide on Bumrah’s replacement. Team captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid spoke about the alternative option they’re looking at, in a press conference. The duo did not mention the name of the replacement player. However, they set the priorities clearly, as in which player they’re looking at, for the big event.

Who is going to replace Jasprit Bumrah, according to Rohit Sharma?

The Indian cricketer wants a pacer who has previously played in Australia to be the ideal replacement. He said the replacement player needed to be someone who can hit the deck hard, and bowl with a serious pace and bounce.

At present, India has two potential options, which are Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami. Both of them have played against Australia in Australia in the past. They achieved splendid success too. While Shami became India’s top wicket-taker in the 2015 World Cup, Siraj did a key job for India during the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21.

Will India miss Bumrah?

There are high chances India may miss him, because of the impact the star pacer possesses in T20Is. One cannot rule out the possibility of Shami or Siraj creating a big impact either.

However, India will have to ensure that injury management is taken care of in future endeavors. They already lost the services of Bumrah and Jadeja in the 2022 World Cup. The team cannot simply give away their key candidates and search for new players in times of necessity.
