This was Bumrah’s longest time away from cricket. He got a back injury in September 2022 and missed the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. His back problems continued, and in March 2023, he had back surgery. He also missed IPL 2023. Bumrah returned in August 2023 in the T20I series against Ireland, where he was also the captain.
2. September 2019 – January 2020 (4 months) – Back stress fracture
In September 2019, Bumrah had a stress fracture in his back. Because of this, he missed the South Africa home series. He stayed out for four months and came back to the Indian team in January 2020.
3. January 2025 – April 2025 (3 months) – Back injury

Bumrah performed very well in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and won the Player of the Series award. But during the last test, he got another back injury. He missed the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 because of this. He made his return on April 7, 2025, playing for the Mumbai Indians against RCB.
4. June 2018 – August 2018 (2 months) – Thumb injury
During the first match of the India vs Ireland T20I series, Bumrah hurt his thumb while trying to catch the ball. He missed the whole series and also the first two Test matches against England. He came back in the third test in August 2018.
5. July 2022 – September 2022 (1.5 months) – Back injury

In July 2022, Bumrah led India in a one-off Test match against England as Rohit Sharma was not available. But after the match, he got a back injury and stayed out of the team for one and a half months.
