James Anderson bid farewell to cricket after playing for England’s national cricket team for 21 years. He retired from the game as the third-highest wicket-taker in the history of Test cricket, trailing only Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne.
During his glorious career, Anderson picked 704 wickets in 188 Tests, including 32 five-wicket hauls. In addition, Anderson also featured in 194 ODIs and 19 T20Is.
Talking about the match, though Sri Lanka won the toss, however, the kickstarted the game on the worst-possible note as they lost opener Dimuth Karunaratne for just two runs off 18 balls. Dimuth was dismissed by Gus Atkinson in the sixth over.
Chris Woakes then struck twice in the following over, putting England in a difficult situation. Woakes first got rid of Nishan Madushka for four runs and then removed Angelo Mathews for a duck off five balls.
At the time of writing this article, Sri Lanka was 37-2 after 12 overs, with Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis at the crease for the visitors.
