
The New Zealand cricket board appointed former all-rounder Jacob Oram as the new bowling coach for the men’s senior national team. He succeeds Shane Jurgensen who vacated the position last November.
Oram’s tenure as the bowling coach for the Kiwis will officially begin on October 7, just before the three-match Test series against India.
“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to be involved with the Black Caps again. To be back involved with a team that means so much to me and has been a big part of my life is a real honour”, he said.

“There’s a fresh new wave of talent coming through in New Zealand’s bowling ranks and I hope that I can share my knowledge and experience to help best prepare them for the challenges of international cricket”, he added.
Jacob Oram’s Experience as Bowling Coach
Oram has been involved with the Black Caps in the role of a bowling coach on a few occasions in the past including the Bangladesh tour last year, the T20I series against Australia earlier in 2024 and more recently the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The former all-rounder began his cricketing journey as a coach in 2014 when he took the role of a bowling coach with New Zealand A. He then went on to become the bowling coach of Kiwis women’s team in 2018, motivating the team through to the end of the 2021 ICC Women’s World Cup in New Zealand.
The Kiwi was appointed as the head coach of the Central Hinds at the start of last summer and mentored the side to their maiden Dream11 Super Smash final since 2016. He also served as an assistant coach of the Northern Warriors in the Abu Dhabi T10 league and as bowling coach of Mumbai Indians Cape Town in the South Africa T20 League (SA20).
“His career as a player and his experiences as a coach speak for themselves.He brings a deep understanding of the international game, but also experience in franchise cricket which will be worthwhile in understanding the modern player and the changing landscape of the modern game”, New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said.

Jacob Oram featured for New Zealand in 33 Tests, 160 ODIs and 36 T20Is and was a member of the squad at three ODI World Cups and four T20 World Cups. Oram amassed 4,688 runs with the bat across all three formats of the game and took 252 wickets with the ball.
