In anticipation of the upcoming two-match T20 Internationals series against India, Lorcan Tucker, the wicketkeeper-batter for Ireland, is eagerly looking forward to showcasing his skills against one of the world’s premier cricket teams.
Reflecting on India’s previous visit to Ireland in June last year for a similar two-match series, Tucker acknowledges the challenge that lies ahead. However, this time around, Ireland aims to present a more formidable opposition. Tucker remains optimistic about his team’s chances, given the valuable experience they’ve accumulated over the past year.
“We’ve been actively involved in cricket this year, particularly in the T20 format. Our recent success in Scotland, where we secured qualification for next year’s World Cup, has boosted our spirits. The memories of our competitive encounters against India last summer and the excitement of the forthcoming series have energized the team,” Tucker shared in an interview on Ireland Cricket’s official website.
Tucker’s personal confidence is bolstered by his recent stellar performance in a domestic game within the Inter-Provincial Cup, during which he scored an impressive 133 runs off 93 balls. This achievement has instilled a sense of excitement and determination as he approaches the significant T20I series against India.
The T20I series, consisting of three matches, is scheduled to take place in Dublin on August 18, 20, and 23. Cricket Ireland has announced that the first two matches have already sold out, underscoring the anticipation surrounding the event. Tucker acknowledged the experience of playing important games in recent years, including World Cups and past encounters against India. He emphasizes the team’s focus on staying relaxed and playing with confidence.
“Malahide holds a unique atmosphere, especially when hosting prominent teams. While we expect India to have strong support, the sizeable crowd is a testament to the growth of cricket in Ireland. We’re eager to leave an impression and approach the matches with a positive and confident mindset,” Tucker added.
With a strong squad comprising experienced players such as captain Paul Stirling, Andrew Balbirnie, and others, Ireland is poised to put up a determined fight against India.
The Ireland squad for the T20I series includes Paul Stirling (capt), Andrew Balbirnie, Mark Adair, Ross Adair, Curtis Campher, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Fionn Hand, Josh Little, Barry McCarthy, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Theo van Woerkom, Ben White, and Craig Young.
