Ireland Cricket Records and Statistics: International Matches Played

The fairytale journey of Ireland Cricket from its establishment to becoming a Full member country of the ICC has inspired a whole generation. The team is yet to leave its mark in the Test format, but in white ball cricket, the Irish have already proved themselves as one of the emerging powerhouses of cricket.

The journey of the Ireland cricket team was not smooth. Currently, Ireland participates in all three formats of the game after they became a full member of the ICC. The journey of Irish cricket started in the 19th century, but they had to wait till 1855 to play their first match. Ireland took a significant step into the international circuit when it became an associate member of the ICC. Since then, Ireland has participated in many games in the international circuit, including three World Cups. But the Ireland team got their right to play the Test format on June 22, 2017, when they became a Full member of the ICC. So, they didn’t get many opportunities to represent their country in the purest format of the game.

Feats achieved by Ireland Cricket Team in T20I:

As short as the format is, the difference between the calibre of the two team teams is less. And Ireland has proved this statement once again. They have achieved several feats in this format of the game-

  • Ireland posted a score of 225/7 against Afghanistan during the final of the 2013 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier, which is the highest score in the history of Ireland cricket in the T20I format.
  • The Irish team clinched a victory against Scotland during the semi-final of the 2017 Desert T20 Challenge by 98 runs, which is the highest margin by which Ireland has won a game.
  • Ireland made its highest successful run-chase in their history of T20I Cricket in the third match of the 2019–20 Ireland Tri-Nation Series against Scotland. They chased 194 to win by four wickets.
  • Ireland won their first bilateral series against Kenya in 2011. Without this, they have also won a series against Papua New Guinea (2016) and Zimbabwe (2021).

Ireland debuted in the ODI format against England in Stormont, Belfast, on June 13, 2006, and won their first bilateral series against Kenya in 2008. Ireland has represented in the 2007, 2011, and 2015 World Cups

Feats achieved by Ireland Cricket Team in ODI:

Ireland team is emerging as a new powerhouse of world cricket. The team has already proved its worth by defeating some big cricketing nations. But the consistency is yet to be improved by the Irish team. The lack of consistency has pushed the team to the 11th rank in ICC. In this format, the Ireland team has achieved several feats-

  • Ireland set their highest innings total of 331/8 in the 2015 Cricket World Cup game against Zimbabwe in Hobart. In Another game, Ireland posted an identical total against Scotland in the 2017–18 United Arab Emirates Tri-Nation Series at Dubai.
  • Ireland was named the record for the highest successful run chase in their history when they beat UAE during the 2018 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier by 226 runs.
  • Ireland chased 329/7 successfully against England at Bangalore during the 2011 Cricket World Cup. It was the highest successful chase in a World Cup at that time. The Irish chased the same score in the third ODI of Ireland’s tour of England in 2020.

Test Cricket and Ireland:

Ireland got the Test playing right in 2017 when they became a full member of the ICC. Since then, Ireland didn’t get many opportunities to play this format. They have played only three matches in the Test format against England, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Ireland failed to win any of those matches. The team debuted in a Test format against Pakistan in The Village, Malahide, on 11–15 May 2018. Ireland has come a long way in world cricket. They have played a lot of international crickets, including the World Cups. Though the team is quite promising for the white ball format, there’s much scope for improvement in the red ball format. But the Irish team has many talented players on the team on whom the fans can rely on to carry forward.
