It is hard to be a Windies fan. Unpredictability is the essence of their game. The Caribbean men had an excellent track record in the past. They won the 1975 and 1979 ICC World Cups. The Windies are the most successful team in T20Is, with two World Cup titles in 2012 and 2016. However, it has all become a matter of the past. The champion side has lost their bid to qualify for the Super 12 stage of the World Cup.
The same will happen when a player like Hetmyer is not included in the team. #T20WorldCup In West Indies – Waste đđ pic.twitter.com/rD40BenjcI

The legendary team suffered crushing defeats in two of their three games. Friday was a must-win game for them. However, the Windies bite the dust in the big game. Ireland recorded a nine-wicket win. It meant their ICC campaign was over. This is the first time that an ICC main event is taking place without the Windies.Â
Did they miss Hetmyer?
Earlier, Shimron Hetmyer was assigned the role of a finisher. Hetmyer is a specialist T20 batter who has attacking capabilities. But the Windies’ batter did not play in Australia. This is despite being picked for the squad. The reason was that he missed the flight to Australia and hence the board omitted him on disciplinary grounds.

The team missed a stable middle-order batter. They lacked someone like Marlon Samuels who used to do that job in the past. Hetmyer could have made a difference, believes some fans. The Windies’ middle order was fragile in both the losing games.Â
Why Windies cricket is struggling?
Meanwhile, there is also a question of why some of their big players are not playing for the nation. They are part of various T20 leagues. The board is in huge financial trouble and does not have enough money to pay well for its players. Stars like Sunil Narine and Andre Russell are not playing for the Windies because of this reason.
West Indies finish with 146/5 in their 20 overs.

The Windies can still make a comeback. They possess a nice variety of talents. It is more about execution. They need to market the game well, to earn revenue. The board must pay its players handsomely to gain significant results.Â
