All the 10 IPL teams are likely to get an ‘Impact Player’ substitution from the next few IPL editions as reported by The Indian Express. Impact player substitution is an innovative idea which was firstly utilised in Big Bash Cricket League of Australia. According to this criterion a team can replace one player of their playing 11 with an expected individual sitting on the bench and this could even happen during the course of a live match.
The idea is highly influenced by the sport of football and was introduced a few decades back. But the one thing which will have to be clarified is the like-to-like replacement of International and domestic players. If a team wants to substitute an international athlete with a domestic one or vice versa then the criteria will not be applicable, and it would probably be a like-to-like replacement which will be the condition as inducted by BCCI.
This report can be trusted as it came from the biggest print media house of the country, The Indian Express. The platform also reports the news of the Mega auction event of IPL 2022 first time in public. There is also the possibility that from the next season the BCCI will only be allowed to place 3 overseas players in a specific playing 11 of a team. This move was anticipated by the BCCI a couple of years ago, but they could finally bring it in from the next IPL edition.
IPL is the biggest County Cricket League of the world. Though the other businesses in the ambit like BBL, PSL and CPL are gaining popularity these days, still the market cap of Indian Premier League is far bigger than all of these. It is a valuable thing for the young domestic and international players as they get a perfect experience and begin to understand the concept of – where talent meets opportunity.
The IPL likely to get 'Impact Player' substitution which can be used during the match. Teams can replace 1 player of their playing XI. (Reported by Indian Express).
