The Indian Premier League (IPL) is mostly known for big scores and explosive batting. Every season, we see batters smashing boundaries and breaking records. But not every story is about runs.
Sometimes, even top players especially team captains struggle. Some even get out without scoring a single run not once, but twice against the same opponent in the same season.
Yes, you read that right. Let’s look at three IPL skippers who had this rare and unwanted record. And guess what? One of them is from the 2025 season!
3 IPL Captains Who Got Out for Ducks Twice Against the Same Team
Rohit Sharma – vs Rajasthan Royals
Rohit Sharma, one of the most successful IPL captains, had a tough time in 2018 against the Rajasthan Royals.
In their first match that season, played in Jaipur, Rohit came in at No. 5. But his stay didn’t last. He was run out on the very first ball he faced.
In the second game at the Wankhede Stadium, he came in earlier, at No. 3. But once again, he walked back with a duck. This time, Jofra Archer got him caught by Jaydev Unadkat.
Two matches. Two golden ducks. Same opponent. A rare off-season for the Hitman.
Eoin Morgan – vs Delhi Capitals
Eoin Morgan’s 2021 season had its low points—especially against Delhi Capitals.
KKR played DC three times that season. And Morgan couldn’t score a run in any of those games.
- In Ahmedabad, he was out for a two-ball duck by Lalit Yadav.
- In Sharjah, he faced two balls again before getting dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin.
- In the crucial Qualifier match, he was bowled by Anrich Nortje for a three-ball duck.
Three games. Three ducks. And all as captain. Definitely not the way Morgan wanted that season to go.
Rishabh Pant – vs Delhi Capitals
The most recent case is from the IPL 2025 season. LSG skipper Rishabh Pant is the newest name on this unfortunate list.
In two matches against his former team, Delhi Capitals, Pant couldn’t open his account.
- In Visakhapatnam, he batted at No. 4 and faced six balls without scoring. Kuldeep Yadav, his ex-teammate, got the better of him.
- In Lucknow, he came in late at No. 7 but couldn’t survive long. He was bowled by Mukesh Kumar after just two balls.
That’s two matches and two zeroes for the LSG captain. A rare cold streak for a usually fiery batter.
