IPL 2025 Suspended: After a blackout in the PBKS vs DC match at Dharamsala, the Indian Cricket Board, BCCI, was already in a huddle due to severe situations amidst the India vs Pakistan war scenarios. Many attacks were attempted by both nations last night on 8th May, 2025, in which Pakistan’s Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was affected.
On the other end, India was safe in civil areas, where players were evacuated safely from the stadium. After looking at these rough situations, the BCCI announced IPL suspended.
Official statement by BCCI vice president Rajiv Shukla
BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla confirmed, “We’re organising a train to bring everyone back safely. The match has been called off, and the stadium has been evacuated. We will decide on the tournament’s future based on tomorrow’s situation, but player safety is our top priority.”
The #IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala has been called off due to security reasons following air raid alerts and a blackout in the area.

Unanimous Choice Made by BCCI Officials
The suspension was decided on Friday afternoon at an emergency conference call attended by senior BCCI members, secretary Devajit Saikia, and IPL chairman Arun Dhumal. The view was unanimous: it would be unsafe and inappropriate to carry on with the tournament in the present circumstances.
Teams Start Disbanding; Players Leave India
All the involved IPL 2025 teams have already started making logistical arrangements to take their players and support staff back home. It is reported that a majority of team members are leaving by the next available flights out of and within India as the league comes to an abrupt end.
IPL 2025 Suspended Reflects Seriousness of the Situation
The sudden jump followed the postponement of the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match on Thursday, which was suspended mid-first innings. The two teams had to make their way to Jalandhar by bus and then proceed on a train to Delhi because of airport closures in Dharamsala and surrounding areas.
This incident highlighted the seriousness of the security situation and preceded the eventual suspension of the league.
Doubt about IPL 2025 Resumption
IPL 2025 may have been suspended, but efforts are being made to find a possible window to resume the tournament. One possible window is September, when India does not have any bilateral series lined up. India also has yet to schedule the Asia Cup, which would likely coincide with that time frame and complicate the scheduling possibilities.
12 League Games and Playoffs Outstanding
When suspended, IPL 2025 had conducted 58 games, including the Dharamsala abandoned game. There were twelve league games left to be played in cities such as Lucknow (2), Hyderabad, Ahmedabad (3), Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru (2), Mumbai, and Jaipur. The playoffs were initially planned in Hyderabad and Kolkata.
