IPL 2025: On Friday (May 2), the Gujarat Titans defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 38 runs to get back to winning form in IPL 2025. It was GT’s 7th win of the season and almost confirms their spot in the playoffs. On the other hand, SRH’s chances of qualifying are now very slim.
IPL 2025: GT Dominate SRH to Seal Crucial Win
Chasing 225 runs, SRH never really looked in control and ended their innings at 186/6. Apart from opener Abhishek Sharma, none of the SRH batters made a big impact.
Abhishek Sharma fought hard for Sunrisers Hyderabad and scored 74 runs from 41 balls, hitting 4 fours and 6 sixes. But none of the other SRH batters could score more than 30. For the Gujarat Titans, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna took 2 wickets each.
Abhishek Sharma’s Lone Fight in Vain
Earlier, GT posted a big total of 224/6 in 20 overs thanks to fifties from captain Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler. Batting first, GT made a strong start as Gill and Sai Sudharsan added 87 runs in just 41 balls. Sudharsan was out for 48, but Gill continued and built a 62-run partnership with Buttler.
Shubman Gill scored 76 off 38 balls, smashing 10 fours and 2 sixes before getting out. Buttler carried on and completed his half-century, finishing with 64 off 37 balls. For SRH, Jaydev Unadkat was the most successful bowler, taking 3 wickets for 35 runs.
SRH’s Playoff Hopes Hanging by a Thread
Sunrisers Hyderabad have now won only 3 out of their 10 matches. With four league games left, the most they can reach is 7 wins. They still have a chance to make the playoffs, but it’s no longer in their control.
Even if SRH win all their remaining matches—which won’t be easy given their current form—they’ll still need other teams’ results to go in their favor. For now, their main goal should be to focus on winning the next four games.
