Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen tried to keep the innings going but struggled to score. Aniket Verma powered the innings with five sixes, while Harshal Patel didn’t hit a boundary in his 11-ball stay. Captain Pat Cummins hit 18 runs off four balls, helping SRH finish with 190/9.

In the chase, Aiden Markram was out early. However, Mitchell Marsh, subbed in as an Impact Player, formed a key partnership. Nicholas Pooran scored a quick 50 in 18 balls, the fastest of the season, but was dismissed soon after.

Cummins took the wickets of both Marsh and Pooran, giving SRH a chance to come back into the game. After scoring a duck in the first match, Pant was out for 15 off 15 balls. However, David Miller (13*) and Abdul Samad (22*) finished the job, leading LSG to a comfortable win.

Speaking after the match, the SRH skipper Pat Cummins blamed the pitch for their loss and said:

“It was a different wicket the other day, but we had to score quickly. They batted really well though. Still a very good wicket, that was the best wicket in the world, this was the second-best wicket.”

Pat Cummins praised the Lucknow Super Giants bowlers for sticking to their plans and doing a great job. He also commended his batters for setting a strong total on the board. He said:

“It gripped a little bit, but it was a nice wicket. Every time it’s a fresh game, they bowled really well, it was very well planned. It was a pretty good effort to get to 190.”

Pat Cummins also mentioned that they needed a player like Ishan Kishan to bat deep, similar to the last game. He ended by saying they would move on from the defeat, as it’s a long competition.

You always need one person to bat throughout the innings, like Ishan (Kishan) did the other day, but they bowled really well, never let us off the hook. We got 8 batters, it’s about going out there and making an impact. You see things you could have done better, that could have been the difference. It’s a long competition, we will get a chance pretty quickly, so we need to move on.”

During the post-match presentation, Rishabh Pant said that winning against SRH was a big relief, but the team focused more on the process rather than just the results.

“Big relief, but as a team, we talk about the process. It’s not about getting too high when you win and not about getting too low when you lose.”

Talking about missing the Indian pace-bowling unit due to injuries, Rishabh Pant said that the team focuses on things they can control. He also praised Prince Yadav and Shardul Thakur for their excellent bowling performances.

As a team, we can’t focus on uncontrollables, my mentor said focus on controllables and that is what I did. Good to see the way Prince bowled and also Thakur was really good.”

Rishabh Pant also gave high praise to Nicholas Pooran but mentioned that Team LSG has yet to play their best cricket. He said:

“(On Pooran) You got to give someone the charge when he is batting well and batted brilliantly for us. The group is coming up nicely, we haven’t played our best so far but happy to get a win.”
