IPL 2025: Former Indian stumper Dinesh Karthik has been announced as the new batting coach and mentor for the Royal Challengers Bangalore team for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League.
For the unversed, after the conclusion of the IPL 2024, in May this year, Dinesh Karthik retired from all forms of cricket. IPL 2024 was Dinesh Karthik’s final season as a player. He was a part of the Indian Premier League for the last 17 years and has represented 6 teams in this period. The keeper-batter scored 4842 runs with 22 half-centuries took 145 catches and had 37 stumpings under his name.

Dinesh Karthik Named Batting Coach and Mentor For RCB
DK pulled the curtains down on his glorious career through an emotional statement on his 39th birthday. He expressed his gratitude to friends and family for supporting him throughout his career. He wrote:
“I’ve been overwhelmed by the affection, support and love I have received in the last few days. My deepest gratitude and sincere thanks to all the fans who have made this feeling possible,”
“Having given it plenty of thought for sometime now, I have decided to move on from playing representative cricket. I officially announce my retirement and put my playing days behind me as I square up for the new challenges that lie ahead,โ Karthik added.
However, he has now returned to Royal Challengers Bangalore in a new avatar. He has been appointed as the batting coach and mentor of the RCB for IPL 2025. Announcing the big news, RCB wrote:

Talking about RCB, the team had its fair share of troubles in IPL 2024, having lost 6 matches in a row. However, the Virat Kohli-starrer side made a stunning comeback after winning 6 games. RCB defeated CSK in their last league game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to sneak into the playoffs. But the side eventually crashed out of the tournament after losing to Sanju Samsonโs RR in the Eliminator.
Dinesh Karthik was RCB’s knight in shining armour as he played some match-winning knocks for them lower down the order and showed his utility.
