IPL 2025 Auction: Australian cricketers have always been in great demand in the Indian Premier League. In fact, both of the most expensive players in the IPL 2024 auction were Australia’s Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, who were bought by the franchise with record-breaking bids. However, many star Australian players may be out of the upcoming IPL auction due to international commitments or fitness concerns.
Let’s take a closer look at the names that may be out of the IPL 2025 auction.
These three Australian legends may be out of the IPL 2025 auction
3. Mitchell Marsh
Mitchell Marsh may be out of the upcoming IPL 2025 auction. He is currently retained by Delhi Capitals (DC) for Rs 6.50 crore. Marsh is currently suffering from a hamstring injury, which has raised concerns about his fitness. He may opt to skip the IPL to rest after the Champions Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan this time.
2. Mitchell Starc
Mitchell Starc is another Australian player who may withdraw his name from IPL 2025. Last year, in 2024, he was bought by KKR as the most expensive player (24.75 crores) but KKR may release him in the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction.
Starc has a history of injuries, and Australia wants him to focus on his fitness and take full precautions during his recovery. Starc’s performance was not very good last season and he mostly failed to live up to his price, so this time he may get a lower bid than the previous edition.
1. Pat Cummins
Pat Cummins has consistently put Australian cricket above his league commitments. He opted out of the entire IPL season to focus on his preparations for the ODI World Cup in 2023, and now with the upcoming Champions Trophy, the plan may be the same again.
As the captain of the Australian team, Cummins may once again choose to dedicate himself completely to international duties rather than participating in the IPL. Also, with the ongoing discussions to impose a two-season ban on players who withdraw mid-season, many cricketers are hesitant to enter the IPL.
