IPL 2024: Sridharan Sriram Joins Lucknow Super Giants as Assistant Coach
Sridharan Sriram, the former Indian left-arm spinner, has taken up the role of assistant coach for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the forthcoming IPL season, the franchise confirmed on Saturday. LSG had earlier named Justin Langer as their head coach, replacing Andy Flower.
“The addition of Sriram completes the impressive coaching staff of the Super Giants, led by Langer and supported by global mentor Gautam Gambhir. Vijay Dahiya and Pravin Tambe retain their positions as assistant coach and spin bowling coach, while the South African duo Morne Morkel and Jonty Rhodes continue as the team’s bowling and fielding coaches,” the franchise stated.
Sriram, who represented India in eight ODIs between 2000 and 2004, had previously served as Australia’s assistant coach for a six-year tenure, departing from the role in 2022. His association with the Australian team began in 2016 when he worked as a spin coach under then-head coach Darren Lehmann.
During his playing career, Sriram featured in domestic cricket for teams such as Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Goa, Assam, and Himachal Pradesh. He is renowned for his significant influence on spinners like Adam Zampa, Ashton Agar, and Nathan Lyon, as well as for enhancing the part-time spin abilities of Glenn Maxwell.
Sriram also held the position of technical consultant for the Bangladesh T20I team, offering his expertise from the Asia Cup through to the T20 World Cup in Australia last year. He earned the prestigious designation of an ECB Level-3 “Head Coach” in 2008 and has previously been involved in the IPL as an assistant coach, specializing in batting and spin bowling, for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) until the most recent IPL season.
