We have 42 completed matches in IPL 2023 as of the afternoon of May 1. For the first time in IPL history, the match run total has surpassed 400 runs ten times.
That is not the only mind-boggling statistic that IPL 2023 has produced. So, we have compiled a detailed summary of the most notable statistics from the 16th edition of the IPL thus far:
#1. For the first time in IPL history, 800-plus runs were made in a single day, with two matches contested on April 30: Chennai 200/4 vs. Punjab 201/6 at Chepauk, Chennai, and Rajasthan 212/7 vs. Mumbai Indians 214/4 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
#2. For the first time, four 200-plus totals were recorded in a single day of play, with the chasing teams winning both matches.
#3 Nine matches in this season have seen totals of 200 or more from both sides in the same match – an all-time high in the IPL, surpassing the five in 2022.
#4 A match aggregate of 400 or more has been witnessed ten times in this edition – another first in IPL history.
#5 It’s interesting to note that eight different clubs were included in the top four match-aggregates in this season. Punjab Kings and Super Giants scored 458 for 15 runs at Mohali on April 28; RCB and Super Kings scored 444 for 14 runs at Bengaluru on April 17; KKR and Sunrisers scored 433 for 11 runs at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 14; and Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians scored 426 for 11 runs at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 30.
#6 The match aggregate of 458 for the loss of 15 wickets between Lucknow Super Giants (257/5) and Punjab Kings (201) is the third highest in IPL history, with the highest being 469 for the loss of ten wickets between Chennai Super Kings (246/5) and Rajasthan Royals (223/5) on April 3, 2010.
#7 The Mumbai Indians’ 214 for four against the Rajasthan Royals on April 30 became the first time a team chased a total of 200 or more at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
#8 Lucknow Super Giants (257/5 vs Punjab Kings at Mohali on April 28, 2023) have become the second side in IPL history to produce a total of 250 or more. The first being Royal Challengers Bangalore (263 for five vs Pune Warriors at Bengaluru on April 23, 2013).
#9 This IPL has set an IPL record with 24 totals of 200 or more, surpassing the previous record of 18 in 2022.
#10 Lucknow’s aforementioned total is now the greatest score in the IPL without an individual century.
