The reigning champions Gujarat Titans (GT) will face MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on March 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. For the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering holding an opening ceremony for the T20 league.
After the epidemic, the IPL will also revert to the ‘home-and-away’ structure this year, with the 10 teams separated into two groups for the 70 league matches. According to Insidesport, actresses Rashmika Mandanna and Tamannaah Bhatia will sing during the IPL 2023 opening ceremony, adding to the glam aspect of the event.
The opening ceremony is likely to commence around 730pm IST on March 31, followed by the match roughly half an hour later, similar to the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 launch last month.
“Yes, there will be an opening ceremony on the 31st. It will be a short one but as the home and away format returns, we felt it was necessary to welcome back the home crowd with a ceremony,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport website.

The first-ever WPL also included a glamorous opening ceremony, featuring performances by Bollywood stars Kriti Sanon, Kiara Advani, and Punjabi music phenomenon AP Dhillon. The BCCI hopes that numerous Bollywood A-list celebrities will attend the IPL 2023 opening ceremony.
In the backdrop of the Pulwama tragedy, the BCCI decided not to hold an opening ceremony before the COVID-19 event. During the course of 52 days, 70 league-stage matches will be contested across 12 sites.
In the league stage, teams will play 7 home games and 7 away games. Each club will play each of the other four teams in their group twice. They will also play each of the other five teams once.
