
In another thrilling game, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by five runs in the 47th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Thursday, May 4. Aiden Markram nearly completed a successful chase, but in-form KKR spinner Varun Chakravarthy defended nine runs in the final over and was named Player of the Match for his one-for-twenty effort. The result gave the Nitish Rana-led side its fourth win of the season, keeping them in eighth place in the points table with four wins from ten games.
Kartik Tyagi made his debut appearance in the IPL 2023, replacing Umran Malik, who was dropped following a streak of poor performances. Sunrisers Hyderabad now need a miracle to finish in the top four in the group rounds. This was their sixth defeat in nine games in IPL 2023, leaving them in ninth place in the points table. They do, however, have a game in hand, thus the potential of making the playoffs remains.

Gujarat Titans lead the table with 12 points from nine games. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants are second with 11 points in 10 games, while Chennai Super Kngs are third with the same number of points, with net run rate determining the outcome. Rajasthan Royals are fourth, Royal Challengers Bangalore are fifth, Mumbai Indians are sixth, and Punjab Kings are seventh. The margin between fourth and seventh place is determined by net run rate.
IPL 2023 Orange Cap
With 466 runs, RCB captain Faf du Plessis leads the Orange Cap race, followed by RR’s Yashasvi Jaiswal (428). Devon Conway of CSK is third with 414 runs, and Virat Kohli of RCB is fourth with 364. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Conway’s opening partner, ranks fifth with 354 runs.
IPL 2023 Purple Cap
With 17 wickets, GT pacer Mohammed Shami leads the Purple Cap race. Tushar Deshpande (17) of CSK is second, Arshdeep Singh (16) of PBKS is third, and MI spinner Piyush Chawla (15) of RCB is fourth and fifth, respectively.
