IPL 2023: 3 Players Who Have Led KKR and DC As Captains In the IPL

In this article, we’ll discuss three players who have captained both franchises. Let’s have a look at three of them in this listicle:

The Delhi Capitals (DC) ended their five-match losing streak in IPL 2023 when they face the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Thursday, April 20 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

On Thursday, Delhi Capitals beat Kolkata Knight Riders by four wickets to earn their first IPL 2023 win. DC bowlers were on fire as they bowled out KKR for 127 after skipper David Warner elected to bowl first.

Speaking about captains, a few players have captained both franchises. Let’s have a look at three of them in this listicle:

#1 Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir’s legacy as KKR captain is well-documented, having led the team to two IPL titles over the years. However, he was the captain of DC when they were known as the Delhi Daredevils.

When Virender Sehwag missed a few games in 2009, Gambhir filled in before taking over full-time in 2010 after Sehwag surrendered his duties. However, Delhi did not retain him before to the major auction, resulting in a memorable chapter between the left-handed opener and the Knight Riders.

Gambhir returned to the Daredevils in 2018, however a poor run of form with the bat and the team’s inability to go on a winning streak forced him to step down after six games.

#2 Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik was chosen captain of KKR before of the 2018 IPL when Gambhir returned to DC. He took them to the playoffs at the first attempt, but the team fell just short of repeating the accomplishment in 2019.

Karthik led the franchise halfway through the 2020 season before stepping down to concentrate on his batting. Eoin Morgan, England’s white-ball captain, took over from him, but Karthik remained vice-captain.

Karthik’s first IPL leadership came with Delhi in 2010, when he took over for Gambhir due to an injury. In 2014, he led the squad for a few games in the absence of an injured Kevin Pietersen.

#3 Shreyas Iyer

KKR’s current captain, who is out of the IPL 2023 due to a back injury, led DC to their last final appearance in 2020. Shreyas Iyer took over for Gambhir after the first six games of the 2018 season and led the squad for the next two seasons.

He led them to Qualifier 2 in 2019 and the final in 2020, however a shoulder injury forced him to miss the next season, with Rishabh Pant taking his place. While Shreyas returned after the season resumed in the UAE that year, he played under Pant’s captaincy as DC advanced to the playoffs for the second time.

Shreyas had a difficult time as KKR captain ahead of the IPL 2022, as his team finished seventh in points. In the current season, Nitish Rana is the Knight Riders’ captain.
