IPL 2023: 3 Players Who Didn’t Live Up To Expectations This Season So Far

Here are the three biggest failures of the IPL 2023 so far.

The IPL 2023 has concluded with 16 matches. The tournament’s competitive aspect has shined through, as none of the ten teams are unbeaten, and only one team, the Delhi Capitals, is winless. As the tournament enters its second half, the fight for the top four and top two will heat up.

So far, the season has been entertaining: while the majority of the matches have been high-scoring affairs, the previous three days have featured three last-ball thrillers, making it incredibly thrilling for both players and fans.

There have been a lot of standout performances in the opening few weeks of the IPL 2023. And, predictably, there have been a few who have disappointed and failed to live up to expectations. So, here are the three biggest failures of the IPL 2023 so far:

Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw needs a great season ahead of the start of the IPL 2023 to get back into national team contention and also to put some of the off-field issues behind him. Shaw’s bat, on the other hand, has been silent until now. The right-handed DC starter has a score of 12, 7, 0, and 15 in 4 innings. Shaw must turn things around or risk losing his position on the DC squad who have lost their first four games.

Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel RCB

Harshal Patel, the RCB bowler who won the Purple Cap in IPL 2021 with 32 wickets and 19 wickets last season, has four wickets in three matches so far. But, RCB is concerned with his economic rate of 11.3 percent. While Harshal had an economy rate of less than 8.5 in the previous two seasons, he’s had a costly start to this competition, conceding more than 40 runs in two of three matches and 38 in another.

RCB’s bowling, already lacking Hazlewood and now lacking Topley, has been the weakest of any side in the tournament’s death overs thus far.

Mayank Agarwal

At the Indian Premier League 2023 auction, SRH paid 8.25 crore for Mayank Agarwal to replace Williamson as the opener. Agarwal, on the other hand, has failed to impress in his first three outings for SRH, scoring 27, 8, and 21. Also, his strike rate of only 112 is unsatisfactory.

Coupled with his extensive expertise, Agarwal has a reputation as a quick starter and a batsman who wants to take advantage of the powerplay field limits by playing aggressive strokes while risking his wicket. That hasn’t been the case in the Indian League thus far.
