IPL 2023: 3 Brothers Duo Who Played For The Same Team In IPL

Let’s look at three well-known brother pairings who participated in the IPL and were teammates for the same squad.

Whether at the international or IPL levels, there have been many examples of two brothers playing in the same cricket squad. The Chappell brothers, the Waugh brothers, etc. immediately come to mind.

There have been instances of two brothers playing side by side for the same franchise in the IPL. The Hussey brothers, Pandya brothers, Marsh brothers, Pathan brothers, and a few others have all represented the same franchise at various points in time or for different franchises.

Let’s look at three well-known brother pairings who participated in the IPL and were teammates for the same squad.

Pandya brothers (MI)

Hardik and Krunal Pandya, the Pandya brothers, have been tournament regulars since their debuts.

At the IPL 2015 auction, the Mumbai Indians signed a little-known player at the time, Hardik Pandya, for a base price of 10 lakhs. In his first IPL season, he impressed the MI management and was a capped player before the following, making his Indian team debut in Australia in January 2016.

Meanwhile, MI has signed Hardik’s elder brother Krunal Pandya for a significantly larger fee of 2 crores than Hardik. The franchise kept a tight eye on his domestic career, which was evident in his performance for them.

Krunal was a key player in MI’s 2019 victory, as he established a formidable combination with Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard.

Both Pandya brothers remained with MI until 2020, making them the first pair of brothers to have represented the franchise at the same time.

Hussey Brothers (CSK)

Michael and David Hussey have not only played in the IPL, but they have also coached the league’s franchises.

Michael Hussey was a member of the Chennai Super Kings’ inaugural setup in 2008 and played a key role in their consecutive title wins in 2010 and 2011. He also played for the Mumbai Indians and is currently on the coaching staff of the CSK management.

It’s worth noting that David Hussey was not always a part of the CSK setup. Rather, he was doing commentary during the IPL 2014 when CSK called him up to replace the injured Dwayne Bravo.

Although the Hussey brothers played for CSK in different seasons, they are one of the few pairs of brothers to have represented the same team.

Morkel Brothers (DD)

For a long time, Albie Morkel and Morne Morkel have been a part of the IPL.

Albie was first drafted by the Chennai Super Kings in the inaugural season of the IPL, where he excelled as an all-rounder and finisher. He was instrumental in their back-to-back championships.

He most recently played for the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2015, but his performance was subpar, prompting the organisation to release him the following season.

Morne Morkel was drafted by the Rajasthan Royals in 2008 before joining the Delhi Capitals in 2011. He was part of an effective combination that includes Ajit Agarkar and Irfan Pathan. Both players are unique, but they were both useful in the Indian league.
